Indore Beggar Found to Own Multiple Properties, Cars, and Run Loan Sharking Business

A physically challenged beggar, who was a familiar sight in Indore's Sarafa market, has been exposed as the owner of three pucca houses, three auto-rickshaws, and a car. The man, identified as Mangilal, also lent money at interest. The shocking revelation came after a rescue team, acting on repeated complaints, apprehended him. Mangilal, who used a wooden plank to move and carried a bag on his back, would elicit sympathy from passersby who would donate money. Investigations revealed he owns a three-story house in Bhagat Singh Nagar, another house in Shivnagar, and a one-bedroom flat in Alwas, with the total property value estimated in crores. He also owns three auto-rickshaws and a Desire car, both of which he reportedly rents out. Mangilal admitted to lending money at interest, stating he collected interest payments along with his daily alms, earning between Rs 400 to Rs 500 daily. He claimed he did not force anyone for alms, as people voluntarily gave him money seeing his condition. However, authorities consider feigning helplessness to beg a crime, especially for someone who is wealthy. The rescue operation was part of a broader anti-begging campaign, and further action will be taken as per government directives.
