Dhanbad Woman Duped in Instagram "Digital Arrest" Cyber Scam

A woman in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, was defrauded of over two lakh rupees in a "digital arrest" cyber scam originating from Instagram. A scammer, posing as a long-lost brother, first promised gifts to the victim's daughter, then faked a car accident, and subsequently intimidated the family with threats of police arrest and fabricated videos of women being taken into custody to extort money. After initial payments, the scammer demanded more funds. The victim reported the incident to her neighbors, then filed a complaint with the cyber police and on the National Cyber Crime Portal. Authorities are investigating the case and have urged the public to remain vigilant against unknown individuals making money demands or police threats on social media, advising them to contact cyber helplines or local police immediately.
