Shimla Panchayat Unanimously Opposes Jathia Devi Township Land Acquisition
Baagi Panchayat in Shimla's suburb has unanimously opposed the land acquisition for the proposed Jathia Devi Township project near Jubbarhatti Airport, citing threats to local farming and livelihoods. A special Gram Sabha, attended by villagers from eight villages, passed a resolution demanding the project's immediate cancellation and refusing consent for land acquisition. Copies of the resolution, which argues the project would severely damage the rural area's social, economic, and environmental structure and proceeded without necessary Gram Sabha approval, have been sent to the Governor, Chief Minister, district administration, and the National Green Tribunal, with villagers warning of agitation if their demands are not met.
