Retired Soldier Defrauded of ₹98 Lakh in 'Digital Arrest' Cyber Scam in Himachal Pradesh
A retired soldier in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh, was defrauded of approximately ₹98 lakh in a sophisticated cyber scam. Over 15 days, fraudsters, impersonating officials from agencies like the CBI, RBI, and courts, subjected him to 'digital arrest' by continuously threatening him via phone and video calls. They showed fake court proceedings, accused him of money laundering, and coerced him into transferring funds by threatening arrest and imprisonment. The victim was also instructed to delete digital evidence. Police have registered a case and are investigating, while cyber crime officials have issued a public warning against such scams, clarifying that no government agency employs 'digital arrest'.
