Two Dead, One Injured in Illegal Mine Collapse in Odisha
Two laborers died and one was seriously injured after a massive landslide occurred at an illegal stone quarry in Malkangiri district, Odisha, on Friday. The deceased were identified as 21-year-old Tuna Garba and 31-year-old Meetu Madhei, while Vijay Rao, from Champagari village, sustained critical injuries and is undergoing treatment. According to reports, six laborers were digging soil and loading it onto a tractor when the collapse happened. Two workers who rushed to save the first trapped laborer also became victims. Following the incident, police, mining, and labor departments initiated an investigation. The preliminary findings suggest the mine was operating illegally, raising serious concerns about safety and administrative oversight in such operations.
