Shimla's Baagi Panchayat Opposes Jathia Devi Township Project
Baagi Panchayat, located in Shimla's suburb near Jubbarhatti Airport, has unanimously opposed the proposed Jathia Devi Township project's land acquisition. Villagers from eight local areas passed a resolution, citing threats to their agricultural land, livelihoods, and the region's socio-economic and environmental structure. They argue the Himachal Pradesh Housing and Urban Development Authority (HIMUDA) project, envisioned in 2014, proceeded without Gram Sabha consent. Copies of their objections have been sent to the Governor, Chief Minister, district administration, and NGT, with villagers warning of protests if their demands to cancel the acquisition are not met.
