AIMIM Makes Significant Gains in Maharashtra Municipal Elections
While the BJP alliance secured a major victory in Maharashtra's 29 municipal corporation elections, Asaduddin Owaisi's AIMIM emerged as a surprising key player, particularly in Muslim-majority regions. The party won or led on 75 out of 2,869 seats, disrupting the traditional hold of Congress and NCP in these areas. AIMIM secured 24 seats in Aurangabad (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar) and 20 seats in Malegaon, where it has become a kingmaker. In Mumbai's BMC, AIMIM won three wards, while also impacting results for other parties on several seats. The party also showed strong performances in Nanded (14 seats), Dhule (8 seats), and Amravati (6 seats), marking its expansion beyond traditional strongholds and signaling a new identity in Maharashtra's urban politics.
